Back Bowden Doors has had a wet and unsettled recent period — 10.1mm on May 3rd, 2.1mm on May 5th, and light rain today — with no sustained dry spell in the sheltered valley to allow adequate drying of the porous Fell Sandstone. With further rain forecast tomorrow and heavy rain on May 9th, conditions are not suitable for climbing and are unlikely to improve this week.

Castle Rock of Triermain is currently damp from scattered light rain over recent days, with further showers forecast from early afternoon today and continuing through the next several days. Although the BVS rock does not suffer structural damage, friction will be significantly compromised on wet surfaces, and there is no meaningful dry window today or in the coming days.

Great Wanney has not had an adequate drying window: 14.1mm fell on May 3rd, followed by further light rain on May 5th and today (May 7th), with only isolated dry days in between at moderate temperatures and high humidity. The forecast brings more rain tomorrow and heavy rain on May 9th, meaning conditions are unlikely to improve this week.

Despite a relatively dry spell from late April into early May, 12.1mm of rain on May 3rd followed by further light precipitation on May 5th and today (May 7th, 2.3mm forecast) means the rock has not had adequate consecutive drying time. The NW aspect at 430m, persistent high humidity, cloud cover, and incoming heavy rain tomorrow make conditions unsuitable.

The crag has not had adequate drying time following 9.8mm of rain on May 3rd, with further light precipitation on May 5th (1.7mm) and today (0.6mm), and the forecast brings more rain tomorrow and through the week. With only fragmented dry spells, high humidity (78% average), and cool temperatures (8°C average), internal moisture levels in the porous Fell Sandstone are likely still elevated.

Raven Crag has had a prolonged unsettled spell with 10.1mm on May 3rd and light precipitation on several recent days including today, and the forecast shows continued showery weather through the coming week. Although the south-facing volcanic rock dries relatively quickly, persistent cloud cover, high humidity, and intermittent drizzle today mean the surface is unlikely to offer reliable friction.

Scout Crag has had light rain overnight and early this morning, with further scattered showers forecast through the afternoon and evening; although there is a potentially dry window mid-morning to early afternoon, high humidity and persistent cloud cover will limit drying on the south-facing rock. The week ahead looks unsettled with rain on most days, so conditions are unlikely to improve soon.

Recent days have seen intermittent light rain (May 3rd 8.5mm, plus small amounts on the 5th, 6th, and today) with high humidity and overcast skies, preventing the polished slate from drying properly. Light showers are forecast from mid-afternoon today and rain continues into the coming days, making reliable dry conditions unlikely.

The rock has had only about 1.5 dry days since the last significant rain (2.9mm on May 5th, plus 8.9mm on May 3rd), which is insufficient drying time for porous Fell Sandstone even at this exposed SW-facing crag. With further rain forecast from tomorrow through the weekend, conditions are unlikely to improve in the near term.

Despite a few dry days earlier this week, heavy rain on May 3rd (17.1mm) followed by light rain on May 4th and today (May 7th), combined with high average humidity (78%), means the gritstone is unlikely to be fully dry internally. With 11.4mm of rain forecast tomorrow, conditions are set to deteriorate further.

The heavy 27.7mm rainfall on May 3rd was followed by only a few days of modest drying conditions, with light precipitation on May 4th and today (May 7th), and the rock is very likely still holding significant internal moisture. With further rain forecast over the next several days, conditions are not suitable for climbing on gritstone.
